You Mustn’t “Can’t”!
You have heard it all before – set goals, believe in yourself, keep thinking positive and stop limiting beliefs. But what I would like to reiterate today is the importance of eliminating the word “can’t” from your vocabulary – especially when setting, discussing or reviewing your goals!
The word “can’t is very disempowering! The other day I posted an article on CANI – and using the principle, you must promise yourself to start using more empowering words such as “must” and “should”. MUST is a biggie when it comes to you dreams and desires!
You must remember that when other’s use MUST to ask you to do something (like you must take the garbage out today) they do so because they want to emphasize the importance of the task. Similarly, when you use MUST in your desires and goals – you are not only emphasizing the importance of what, when and why but also empowering yourself to fulfill what is expected of you! It literally changes how you feel about that which you must do and empowers you to act accordingly!
Words have a power on all of us! Making a conscious effort to change your thoughts and words can change your life from blah to rah! Start today, substituting all your disempowering words with empowering ones like must, should, can. Then notice procrastinating change into motivation — in no time!
Following is a list of disempowering and empowering words and their relatives
~ can’t, maybe, wish, whatever, if only, try, problem, we’ll see. Note that depending on the context used – the words should, challenge, will, need and feel can also be disempowering!
+ empowering substitutes: must, absolutely, intend (yummy word this is!), commit, choose, opportunity. Note that depending on the context used – the words should, challenge, feel, will and need can be empowering!
