Change Starts With Awareness
Did you know that HABITS are just as easy to change as your thoughts? Habits like thoughts are preventive if we keep engaging on limiting patterns.
It is true, that we form our own habits and therefore our own limitations. Habits are formed by doing something once and then making a mental note about how we enjoyed (or not) that particular action. There on, we act accordingly.
For example, have you ever had a sever paper cut or have burn your hand on something hot? You remember that or a similar incident vividly right? Do you think, that your brain will warn you of the outcome, if you went through the same scenario again? The answer is a definite yes! You are not going to repeat that same mistake again because your mind has associated that incident with PAIN.
But say if you did something that was pleasurable and your mind associated the incident with something that was fun and fulfilling. Do you think that your mind would flag that moment as something that you would want to repeat—because it was so much fun the first time? Again, the answer is yes!
Basically then, our habits are formed by our conscious and aware mind obeying blindly, our memory manager i.e. the subconscious mind. Many a times, you hear people who are depressed ingesting all sorts of junk because that food (example—chocolates for some, alcohol for others) takes the pain away. And if you keep repeating that action over and over – you are, there from, forming a habit! You are storing in your subconscious mind that if I feel X then Y is what is going to give me relief.
You must be aware of everything you do and feel in order to change your life (if you want to change your life).
It is totally possible to break the habit of going to sleep at midnight and waking at 7:00 a.m. and instead create a new one that is empowering—like go to sleep at 10:00 p.m and wake up at 5:00 a.m. This gives you two good hours first thing in the morning to meditate and/or workout. This new habit, could give you just the right motivation you need—to start your day with positive actions, thoughts and attitude!
Whatever your excuse for not achieving all that you want—know that it is because you are not consciously making the effort to form a new habit—whatever that maybe!
