Journey to Better Self
Every year, around this time in December, I make a point of drafting my plans for the coming New Year. I review all my desires from last year and write down new things and events that I desire. I sit down and map a plan that will help me achieve my dreams and goals faster.
Every year, I achieve most of them but not all. Every year, I ask myself—why I was able to achieve X goal but not the Y goal, and every year, I tell myself “maybe it is not the right time for me to achieve the Y goal.
Well this year, I decided to write down almost everything that comes to mind that I desire so that I can track, in years to come, which goal turns out to be Y goals and why! Only when I know why I am not able to achieve certain goals, I can tweak my plan to make the Y goals possible too!
I am still debating whether to announce my desires on the blog or keep them private. Some self help experts say “tell everyone!” and some say “just state it and forget it”. I suppose I could split the goals into 2 categories and then study which ones come true faster for me. The ones that I bragged about or the ones I kept to myself!
But first—goal setting! Every year, I go through this process and every year I actually look forward to grading my goals from year past. I love this time—not because of the holidays but because of my goal setting session. It is these session that give me the discipline to do the work I need to do to keep my word. It is these goals that encourage me to believe that everything is possible. No matter how unreal my goal, if I believe in it and have faith that it is possible for me to have it, I know I will.
In 2008, I actualized two such goals. They were totally impossible in 2006, 2007 and even early in 2008. But come April—and like magic, voila! The first goal actualized! Then in September 2008, my entire purpose of being was flashed in front of my eyes when I actualized my 2nd most precious goal.
Today, I am living with 4 “miracles” in my life as living proof that what a person’s mind can conceive and believe—it can achieve!
Believe it or not, writing goals down works because they say a lot about a person. They tell a story of whether I was serious enough about achieving my desires or was I just lying to myself. If not lying then what was it that held me back from achieving 100% of my goals and through the analysis of this journey, I have realized my strengths and weaknesses AND I have seen myself grow from someone who lived life as it unfolded to a person who lives life as design by self.
Do you think I am happier today? You bet!
